U.S. Highway 189/191 between Daniel Junction and Hoback Junction remains closed due to smoky and hazardous conditions from the Cliff Creek Fire.
Wyoming Department of Transportation Public Relations Specialist Stephanie Harsha said the situation will be reevaluated this afternoon, although it probably won’t open today.
“As it stands that road remains closed and will probably remain closed for the rest of the day,” said Harsha.
During an update last night, Harsha was told the origin of the fire is flaring up—approximately five miles north of Bondurant. Crews will be conducting a back burn in an attempt to stop the fire from crossing the highway.
Weather and wind conditions are not favorable to firefighting. Expected strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can all contribute to extreme fire behavior.
The U.S Forest Service says Highway 191 will be opened as soon as is feasible.
