Following President Obama’s announcement of new executive action on guns, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo,) released a statement on Tuesday.
“Every day across Wyoming, we responsibly exercise our right to keep and bear arms. The last thing we need is for the president to infringe on our constitutional right to protect our homes and families,” Senator Barrasso said in the statement.
“We all agree that we must find ways to control violent crime and keep guns out of the hands of criminals. This can be done by enforcing the laws already in place. We must look at ways to address the mental health issues that contribute to gun violence in America.
“Once again, President Obama is more concerned with his legacy than with the rights of law-abiding citizens. I will work to block this and any other action that threatens our Second Amendment rights.”
President Obama unveiled a plan today to tighten gun control and enforcement, the Associated Press reports. The plan focuses on a more sweeping definition of gun dealers. The Obama administration hopes that the action will stop gun sellers from getting around the background check requirement by failing to register as licensed dealers and expand the number of people subject to background checks.
During the White House Ceremony, President Obama said his proposals are not a violation of the Second Amendment.
