On the evening of Saturday, April 9, the Rock Springs Police Department was notified of a Facebook post that appeared to claim that multiple people in Rock Springs had experienced a group of men knocking on their door, assaulting the home’s occupants, and proceeding to burglarize the residence.

After being notified of the post, RSPD posted on the Facebook requesting more information on where the post originated.

Police were able to identify that the post referred to an isolated incident in January.

“It was reported. It is actually on ongoing investigation, and we are actually seeking information on the suspects in the case,” said Alison Deters, Public Information Officer with RSPD. “It does appear that it was an isolated incident. We don’t have any other reports of incidents happening since then—so we’re not quite sure where that information came from—but we wanted to dispel any concerns that the public may have.”

Deters says if anyone has information on the January incident, which happened on Ludvig Street, they can provide information by calling dispatch at 352-1575.

Deters says even though this is not a crime that has apparently been repeated in Rock Springs, there are some tips for keeping yourself and your property safe from these kinds of crimes:

  • Lock you doors, even when you’re home.
  • Be vigilant. Keep your eyes and ears open for yourself and your neighbors.
  • Contact law enforcement if you see anything suspicious.
  • Have people identify themselves and why they’re there if they knock on your door.
  • Always use caution when opening the door to someone you don’t know.

Deters says you should call dispatch if there is concern of someone knocking on your door or suspicious in your neighborhood.
