A motorcycle accident east of Laramie last week has resulted in the death of one Cheyenne resident and the injury of another.
Mitchell Kenning, 51 of Cheyenne, died on Sunday from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident that occurred at about 8:25 p.m. on Thursday, July 14 near mile marker 335 of Interstate 80, approximately 19 miles east of Laramie.
According to Wyoming Highway Patrol, Kenning was operating a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling eastbound on I-80 when the motorcycle went off the highway across the median and into the westbound lanes. The motorcycle was laid down and both Mitchell Kenning and his passenger, 46-year-old Stephanie Kenning, also of Cheyenne, were thrown from the motorcycle.
Neither passenger was wearing a helmet during the crash.
Mitchell Kenning was transported by helicopter to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Cheyenne. He died from his injuries on Sunday, July 17.
Stephanie Kenning was transported by ground ambulance to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center where she was hospitalized for her injuries.
Contributing factors in this crash are still under investigation. This crash marked the 49th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 75 fatalities during this same time period in 2015.
