“I am honored to join New Jersey First Lady Mary Pat Christie and other First Spouses from around the country in raising awareness about the advances being made to empower people with Down Syndrome,” First Lady Carol Mead said. “I am delighted to have the opportunity to take part in the Light the Way campaign.”

The Light the Way campaign was first launched on World Down Syndrome Day, March 21, 2011. The campaign supports the LuMind Research Down Syndrome Foundation’s efforts to educate, increase awareness, and raise funds to increase life opportunities for people living with Down Syndrome.

New developments in Down Syndrome cognitive research have shed light on connections between Down Syndrome and Alzheimer’s Disease and bring the promise of potential treatments for those with cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer’s Disease, according to a release from the Wyoming Governor’s Office.
