The fire was first reported Saturday evening, and is believed to be lightening caused. The fire has remained on public land operated by Bureau of Land Management and has not burned any private land.

BLM Fire Management Officer Frank Keeler says BLM crews continue to fight the blaze, and they anticipate full containment around 10 a.m. today. Containment does not mean that the fire is completely extinguished, but does mean that crews have enough control that they don’t expect the fire to spread any further.

The Clay Basin Fire is burning primarily in juniper with a little bit of grass and sage.

As of Monday, approximately 35 personnel from the BLM are fighting the blaze with three BLM engines, a hotshot crew, and a fuels crew on scene.

Initial response included Sweetwater County Fire and the Bureau of Land Management.
