A 20-year-old man from Indiana died from injuries sustained in a crash south of Laramie yesterday.
According to a release from Wyoming Highway Patrol, Matthew Fahs-Brown, of North Manchester, Indiana, died from injuries sustained in a crash about 13 miles south of Laramie on US Highway 287 at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Fahs-Brown was riding in the backseat of a 2004 Suzuki XL7 SUV which was driven by 20-year-old Tyler Peters from Richmond, Virginia.
The vehicle was traveling south on US 287 in light snow with wet and icy roads. While crossing over a bridge deck, Peters lost control of the vehicle. The car left the highway to the west and rolled multiple times.
Fahs-Brown was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. He was taken to Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie where he died from his injuries.
Peters and a second passenger, 20-year-old Crea Knight, also from Richmond, Kentucky, were both wearing their seatbelts. Both were transported to Ivinson Memorial Hospital. Peters was treated and released, and Knight was hospitalized for his injuries.
WHP says speed too fast for conditions of the highway and driver fatigue are being investigated as possible contributing factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time. Alcohol use and drugs are not suspected as factors in the wreck.
This fatality marked the 17th highway fatality in Wyoming this year. There were 46 highway fatalities in Wyoming during the same time period last year.
