Rock Springs – At their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, the Rock Springs City Council unanimously voted to appoint Craig Nelson to the Rock Springs Main Street/Urban Renewal Agency Board of Directors.
Nelson retired in November after working for 38 years for Rocky Mountain Power. In retirement, Nelson has stayed active in the community by serving on the Rock Springs Planning and Zoning Commission, Sweetwater Joint Travel and Tourism Board, Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce Enterprise Committee and Western Wyoming Community College Foundation Board.
Nelson previously served on Evanston and Rock Springs City Councils, serving in Evanston for 12 years and in Rock Springs for four years. He has also served on several Wyoming Association of Municipalities (WAM) committees and the Board of Directors.
Nelson also had the opportunity during his time in municipal government to serve on the National League of Cities Human Resources Committee, Energy Environment and Natural Resources Steering Committee and the NLC Small Cities Council.
Over the years, Nelson has served on the Wyoming Economic Development Board of Directors, Sublette County School District Number 1 Board of Directors, Evanston, Pinedale and Rock Springs Chamber Board of Directors. He has also served on numerous other committees and boards such as recreation, airport, economic development, urban renewal, and others.
Nelson has lived his entire life in southwest Wyoming in the communities of Evanston, Pinedale, Green River and most recently, Rock Springs. Craig and his wife, Janis, have 3 children and 6 grandchildren spread from Evanston to Cheyenne along I-80.
