RENO, Nev. – The University of Wyoming men’s basketball team lost its first game of 2016 with a score of 71-68 in Nevada on Saturday in the Lawlor Events Center. The Cowboys (7-8, 0-2 MW) were within one point during the final 30 seconds of the game, but the Wolf Pack (9-5, 1-1- MW) hit a three pointer to earn the win.
“I shared with our team in the locker room, clearly I have to do a better job getting them ready at the beginning of the game,” University of Wyoming head coach Larry Shyatt said in a release from UW Athletics. “We gave them an eight-point spot. They came back as they always have in every game. Then I have to do a better job getting them ready in the second half, because we spotted them an eight-point lead once again.”
For the game, Wyoming hit 39 percent (19-of-49) from the field, 48 percent (10-of-21) beyond the arc and 71 percent (20-of-28) at the charity stripe. Nevada connected on 44 percent (24-of-55), 46 percent (5-of-11) and 78 percent (18-of-23), respectively. The Cowboys did better than the Wolf Pack when it came to rebounding, 37-33, to win the rebounding margin for just the fourth time this season.
Wyoming hosts its first home game of the Mountain West season by hosting Air Force at the Arena-Auditorium on Wednesday at 7 p.m. MT.
