Classes will resume at Rock Springs High School on Tuesday at their regularly scheduled time after classes were cancelled Monday due to the school having no water.
The water issue was caused by a bonnet that blew off the top of a City of Rock Springs water valve, according to a release from Sweetwater County School District #1. Water was fully restored to the school at approximately 12:30 p.m. Monday.
Parents and the community were notified via several communication channels: RSHS and District Facebook, School District Website (sweetwater1.org), SchoolMessenger, and most importantly the SchoolWay app. Parents and community members are strongly encouraged to sign up for the SchoolWay app. Directions to install can be found at sweetwater1.org. In addition to social media, the School District reached out to local media outlets to better inform the community.
Rock Springs High School students that were already en route via the buses arrived at the school at their scheduled time. Rock Springs High School staff assisted students in communicating with parents. District bus drivers completed their elementary and junior high routes to prevent delayed starts at the other schools in the District. Drivers then returned to RSHS and safely transported students back home.
Superintendent McGovern stated, “The District would like to thank all employees, students, parents, & community members impacted by the school closure for their patience and flexibility. In addition, a special thanks extends to the District maintenance staff and City employees who worked so diligently to restore services to Rock Springs High School.”
Rock Springs High School Principal Darrin Peppard stated, “We will have a faculty meeting to communicate further details with staff.”
No other schools in the district were impacted by the water outage.
