Sunday Night Football returned to NBC last weekend, and of course Carrie Underwood, came along with it. But later this season, Carrie has a new football-themed effort in store: Carrie’s written a new song, “The Champion,” which will debut ahead of the Super Bowl in February, reports Variety.
Carrie tells the magazine she tested the song on on her personal sports focus group — her husband, retiring Nashville Predators player Mike Fisher.
“My husband loved it,” Carrie tells Variety. “He would listen to it before playoff games. He was like ‘I want everyone to hear it!’ and I had to tell him, ‘You can’t do that. You can’t play it in the locker room. I’m sorry.’ But that was a good indicator that we were on the right track.”
Sunday Night Football Executive Producer Fred Gaudelli thinks “The Champion” is a song we’ll be hearing for a long time.
“I think it’s going to become a sports anthem,” he says. “It’s going to be one of those songs that you see cut to highlights for the next 25 years.”
Carrie’s has been opening NBC’s Sunday Night Football opening since 2013.
