An artist reception for Gisele Robinson will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 at White Mountain Library. Robinson’s artwork is currently on display in the art gallery at the library at 2935 Sweetwater Drive in Rock Springs.
Robinson’s paintings depict the open prairie and skies of Wyoming and South Dakota.
“Ever since my husband, a park ranger, was assigned to South Dakota’s Wind Cave National park and Jewel Cave National Monument, our home back in 1962 and 1963, my heart was captured and my passion belonged to the vast beauty of the Prairie and the never-ending beautiful sky,” Robinson said. “That scenery has been my inspiration to most of my paintings, with some small, lonely, pioneering homestead homes, still visible today, but disappearing rapidly.”
Born in Germany of Swiss parents and educated in Switzerland and Sweden, Robinson grew up surrounded by art and has painted most of her life. Robinson came to the United States in 1955 and has studied with many well-known landscape artists. She attended school at Fresno State College and has participated in many workshops, but she declares herself mostly self-taught. Robinson uses a classical European style of painting and oils to capture the western landscape in all of its incarnations.
Robinson’s work is on display at White Mountain Library through the end of June.
The Sweetwater County Library System encourages local and Wyoming artists to display their creative work at White Mountain Library in Rock Springs and Sweetwater County Library in Green River. A committee of library staff and community volunteers meet to review applications of interested artists and to schedule community shows. Interested individuals are encouraged to pick up an application packet at any of the libraries or contact Debora Soule at the Community Fine Arts Center.
