American Legion To Place Flags At Veterans’ Headstones, Volunteers Encouraged To Help

Members of American Legion Archie Hay Post 24 in Rock Springs will be honoring fallen veterans by placing flags at each veteran’s headstone the morning of Saturday, May 28, 2016.300x250_RMB

Starting at 8 a.m., volunteers from American Legion Archie Hay Post 24 and from the community will be at the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery to place flags on veterans’ graves.

Anyone who wants to volunteer to place flags is encouraged to go to the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery starting at 8 a.m.

American Legion Archie Hay Post Adjutant Leonard Merrell says the process of honoring each veteran with a flag usually takes about three hours to accomplish, and volunteers can show up at any time to help.

Merrell said over 1000 flags will be placed at headstones.

The flags will be retrieved by the Legion on Tuesday morning, after Memorial Day.
