Some Rock Springs residents have reported people going door-to-door claiming to be employed by Sweetwater Cable and trying to gain entry into the home to check equipment.
Marty Carollo, Sweetwater Cable Manager, says at least four people have reported the scam to Sweetwater Cable. So far, none of those reporting the incident have allowed the people into the home. The motive of these door-to-door scammers is not clear, but the scammers have advised people to go with a different service provider.
Carollo says at least three people have attempted to gain access to people’s homes. Of the three, two have been reported as males in their mid to late 20’s, and another male in his 30’s has been reported.
Carollo advises anyone with a similar experience to call Sweetwater Dispatch at 307-352-1575. If possible, provide dispatch with information about when they people came to your door, what they looked like, and what they were driving.
Sweetwater Cable employees wear a brown and tan uniform and drive Sweetwater Cable trucks. In addition, they will always provide credentials when asked for them.
If there is any question as to the legitimacy of a Sweetwater Cable technician at your door, you can always call Sweetwater Cable at 307-362-3773 to confirm a technician is in your area.
The scam has been reported to police by Sweetwater Cable, which was confirmed by the police department. Allison Deters, Public Information Officer with the Rock Springs Police Department, says patrol has been increased in areas where the scam has been reported but there are no suspects at this time.
